Custom Closets Designed Around Your Life

VPG Design creates custom closets for Montreal homeowners who want storage that actually works, finished to the same standard as the rest of their home.

Our Work

Custom Closet Projects in Montreal

Every closet we design is built around what the client owns and how they use it. Here is a look at recent projects across Montreal and the surrounding areas.

Storage That Is Designed, Not Just Installed

Most closets are built to a standard formula: a rod, a shelf above it, and whatever fits. That works until it does not. Shoes end up on the floor, folded items get stacked too high to reach, and the space feels smaller than it should.

We approach closets the same way we approach any other room. We start by looking at what you actually own, how much of it hangs versus folds, what needs to be visible, and what can be tucked away. From there we plan the interior properly, with the right mix of hanging heights, drawer depths, shelf spacing, and dedicated zones for accessories, shoes, and seasonal pieces.

The result is a closet that fits your wardrobe rather than one you have to work around, finished in materials and hardware that match the quality of the rest of your home.

What We Design

Custom Closets for Every Space

From primary walk-ins to the small reach-in that has never quite worked, we design storage for every part of the home.

Walk-In Closets

Primary suite walk-ins planned with proper circulation, dedicated zones, and finishes that make the space feel like a natural extension of the bedroom. Islands, seating, and integrated lighting where the room allows.

Reach-In Closets

Smaller closets are where good design makes the biggest difference. Double hanging, adjustable shelving, and full-height use of the space can often double what a standard closet holds.

Wardrobes and Built-Ins

Freestanding wardrobes and built-in millwork for rooms without a dedicated closet, designed to sit flush and read as architecture rather than furniture.

Entryway and Mudroom Storage

Coats, boots, bags, and everything else that piles up at the door. Practical storage built to handle Montreal winters without looking utilitarian.

Why Homeowners Choose Us

A Montreal Closet Designer With a Millwork Background

VPG Design is led by Yiota Pigounakis, a certified interior designer with over a decade of experience. Her early work was hands-on with millwork, tile, stone, and high-end finishes, which is directly relevant to closets, since a custom closet is essentially a millwork project.

That background means specifications are drawn correctly the first time, hardware is chosen to hold up to daily use, and the fabricator receives drawings they can actually build from. She holds NCIDQ, PMP, and WELL AP credentials alongside her design certification.

Closets are often one part of a larger project. Many clients pair a closet with our kitchen design or bathroom design work in Montreal, and homeowners north of the city can read more about our interior design services in Laval. Common Questions

Closet Design FAQs

How much does a custom closet cost in Montreal?

It depends on the size of the space, the materials, and how much of the interior is fitted out. A well-designed reach-in closet is a relatively modest project, while a large primary walk-in with an island, integrated lighting, and glass-front cabinetry sits at the higher end. We give you a realistic range during the discovery call, before any design work begins, so there are no surprises later.

How long does a custom closet project take?

Design and planning usually take two to four weeks. Once drawings are approved, custom millwork typically needs four to eight weeks in fabrication, and installation itself is often just a few days. Timelines shift with the complexity of the piece and the fabricator's schedule, so we confirm dates once the design is locked.

Can you work with a small closet?

Small closets are often where design makes the biggest difference. Double hanging, adjusting shelf spacing to what you actually own, and using the full height of the space can meaningfully increase capacity without moving a wall. We have taken standard reach-ins and roughly doubled their usable storage through layout alone.

Do you build the closet or only design it?

We design the closet and manage the build through our millwork fabricators. You are not left to find a shop, interpret drawings, or coordinate the install. We handle quoting, measurement verification, and installation oversight. If you prefer design-only and already have a fabricator, we can work that way too.

Is a custom closet worth it compared to a modular system?

Modular systems work well when the space is a standard shape and your storage needs are typical. Custom becomes worthwhile when the room has awkward angles, sloped ceilings, or unusual dimensions, when you want the finishes to match existing millwork, or when your wardrobe does not fit the standard hanging-and-shelving ratio. We are happy to tell you honestly if a modular option would serve you just as well.

What areas do you serve?

We work throughout Montreal, including Westmount, Outremont, NDG, the Plateau, Town of Mount Royal, and Ville-Marie, as well as Laval, the South Shore, and the West Island. Consultations happen at your home so we can assess the space in person.
